Introduction

Dear Future Me and Professor Carr,

Hello Future Me and Professor Carr. This website was crafted with the special purpose of highlight my personal achievements and to show a express myself on different materials that was covered throughout the semester. I am not the student to take it up on myself to say that I enjoy writing, but this class makes you think differently about expressing literacy skills, as you do not have to be the very best in writing to learn and have fun in Professor Carr’s English 110 class. All the activities in class are always productive and extremely interactive, where I as a person doesn’t usually participate in class, found myself participating regularly.

I recognize this class as one where I have to put more mental energy focus on, because of personal relationships with my relationship with English, but the atmosphere of creativity, learning and fun is always thick which makes me really appreciate everything that Professor Carr has done to ensure that, my classmates and I, as Freshman, is getting the most of our college experience.

My learning experience at the end of the semester exceeded my overall expectations of how much I would be leaving the class with, as I know I have improved as a writer, and a reader. The course made the transition from high school to college, very smooth, were I felt like I got some room to breath and a chance level the maneuvering. The first writing assignments, that involved writing about something important to me, my introduction letter, and even the literacy narrative was a great way to start the semester, before we gradually ascended to higher forms of writing. The professor made sure that that the class understood the structure and organizations of each of the writing assignments – literacy narrative, expository and argumentative essays, so that not a single person could say that they didn’t learn anything at the end of the course.

I admire Professor Carr’s teaching style, as she was strict on work, and yet knew when to have fun. The strategy where she allowed everyone to review, edit and comment on each others’ work was beautiful, as I recall on  a moment where she was proud of how constructive and creative the class was integrating her own strategy. This moment was when we were still relatively new to the idea of doing group reviews in class on each several boards, so everyone was still confused or trying to get use to this new concept. But our classmate, Evelly, integrated a way in which she made her group had a deeper engagement in the collaborative process by writing insights and comments of each member’ work on the board beside their work, as opposed to each member doing individual reviews. Other groups started to adopt this process of collaborating, and Professor Carr said that was the first time a person actually tried to do something to benefit the learning process for all, where the whole class started doing it. This was refreshing to experience and I hope that I will have some amazing classroom experiences in  the future.

Learning about the different types of writing strategies and their key features and elements has taught me more than I can ask for in such a small time, and I want to thank Professor Carr and my peers for an amazing semester and for making me a better writer.

Sincerely, Curtis
