CLO #6: Locate research resources (including academic journal articles, magazine and newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timelines, and bias.
This learning outcome was achieved with the help of the Annotated Bibliography I wrote before I started the Expository Essay. Since an annotated bibliography was a new writing strategy to most of my classmates, my professor had someone from the library come and show us how we can navigate the CCNY’s library database. This particular session was important as it helped to locate useful information relating to our research, by exploring and using scholarly sources (books, journals). The assignment also required that we locate resources online that was unbiased, but credible and most most relevant to the topic of my essay. To aid in the understanding of citing online sources, the ‘Norton Field Guide To Writing’ text book. It had everything about how to cite multiple sources -from online to book sources. In organizing the 5 sources needed for the research project a Literature Search and Extraction Grid was filled out.
